As we make our way through hurricane season it is vital that we take the proper steps to protect our homes and loved ones. In this article we will be discussing how you can prepare for a hurricane.
Make sure that you are staying informed from reliable weather forecasts regularly and sign up for emergency alerts and warnings from local authorities. You should also make sure that your family has an emergency plan in place. Emergency plans should include communication planning, identifying multiple evacuation and shelter routes, and planning for the needs of pets.
You should have an emergency kit stored year round that includes water, non-perishable foods, first aid kits with essential medications, flashlights and extra batteries, portable phone chargers and charging cables, cash in small denominations, and important documents in a waterproof container. You should also protect your home by trimming outdoor trees, securing outdoor furniture, reinforcing windows with storm shutters or plywood, installing straps for the roof, and clearing your gutters.
